#GeorgePrice@100 Exhibit Launched
At Saint John’s College Art Center this afternoon, an exhibit was launched to honour the father of the nation, George Price. Price led the country to Independence and would have turned one hundred this year as the country celebrates thirty-eight years of nationhood. The exhibit in the form of photography, text and speeches captures his singular way of connecting with people from all walks of life. The launch of Dajeel Taan, a new online content driven space, also took place. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo reports.

The legacy of George Cadle Price was today displayed in an exhibit form – #GeorgePrice@100. The exhibit is the result of collaborative work between the SJC History Club and the Image Factory of Belize. Central to the exhibit is a mural of Price’s icon and the interpretation of two hundred minds.

“An icon of Price was designed by Carlos Lito Quiroz and we printed two hundred copies of that and we gave them to students from first to fourth form, junior college students and students that we teacher at the Wagner’s facility at the Kolbe Foundation. They all interpreted that image of Price and we joined it as a mural and that is what we see as the central feature. In addition to the mural created by the students, we also have some very vintage photos including an image of Price’s 1933 certificate of merit from Saint John’s College, including some important photos taken by Norris Hall, 1973-74 in the heat of Price pushing with the support of the Belizean people towards independence. We have also some key elements of speeches and text. So it is a combination of art, photography and text.”
Dubbed the Father of Independence, Price’s lasting contributions to the development of the nation is captured through these art pieces.

“When you look at the photos you will see humanity and you will see Price with people. You will see how he was able to connect on a very deep level with the organic nature of the aspirations of people, of their hopes, dreams, of their wanting to be free. You can sense that from these photos.”
Dajeel Taan, an educational Youtube Channel project, was also launched today.

“Where will be recording from today and going forward all the various encounters that we have when guests come to talk at our history club, other activities and we post because we know that is a very easy way for our students to be engaged with the content that we are developing.”
