Manatees return home to convalesce
And in more encouraging news from the sea, the Coastal Zone Management Authority reports that two orphaned manatees have been successfully introduced to a new home near Gale’s point. Woody was transported from Sarteneja on May fourth while Hercules made the long trek from Xcaret in Mexico on May tenth. The health of the two animals now resting in Southern Lagoon is said to be good, and they should be released into the wild in around six months. At present Woody and Hercules’ new environment is not open to public view because of the need for the pair to properly adjust to their unfamiliar surroundings.
