Permit Issued for a Peaceful Protest in Belmopan

Chester Williams

A permit has been issued to a group of concerned Belizeans, who will assemble at the steps of the National Assembly building, to express their discontent this Friday. One of the issues is the recent murder of Adamir Choc as well as the violence and social issues plaguing the country. Earlier today, Commissioner of Police said that the group is allowed to exercise their right and the police department will be out there to ensure that the event is carried out peacefully.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

“People do have a right to descend and we the police are not here to hinder anybody from exercising their right as long as it is done in a peaceful, respectful and orderly manner. The organizers have come in, they have applied for their permit to protest, we have issued that permit and we are going to work with them to ensure that it goes through peacefully. We do not anticipate any issue; the people are very peaceful people and they have their views about certain things that they want to protest about and they’ll be allowed to exercise that right tomorrow. And the police will be there to ensure that it goes through peacefully.”
