Harmonyville Resident Nelson Espinosa is Arraigned for the Murder of Adamir Choc

The mother of Adamir Choc arrived in front of the courtroom in Belmopan today minutes after the murder suspect was taken away in the pan of a police pickup truck. He is a twenty-two-year-old resident of Harmonyville, on the George Price Highway. Nelson Espinosa was taken to court under police escort and was arraigned for the murder of nineteen-year-old Adamir, the San Martin resident who vanished after leaving a nightclub in Belmopan.  Her body was found seven days later off the Never Delay Road. Police apprehended Espinosa on Wednesday and reportedly confiscated a vehicle believed to have been used in the heinous crime. Here is Duane Moody with a report.

This afternoon, just before two p.m., a twenty-two-year-old resident of Harmonyville was arraigned in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court for murder. Nelson Espinosa, seen here in this green shirt, is believed to have committed the heinous murder of nineteen-year-old Adamir Choc, whose body was discovered partially nude in some bushes off the Never Delay Road in Cayo District. Espinosa was detained overnight and slapped with the charge this morning.

“Following up on the investigation on the death of Adamir Choc, police have since this morning arrested and charged Nelson Espinosa, twenty-two years of a Harmonyville address for the crime of murder.”

A car has also been impounded, which is believed to have been used in the commission of the crime. While the police would not divulge whether Espinosa had confessed to the crime, ACP Joseph Myvett confirmed that several other persons remain in detention.

“I am not going to go into all the details of the police investigation other than to say that the end result resulted in the arrest of Espinosa for the crime of murder.”

“Police had detained several persons during the investigation; some of whom are still in police detention as the investigation doesn’t stop at the murder arrest, but is still an ongoing investigation.”

“We met with the mother yesterday and some of her friends that she brought with her. We took them through the evidence that we have and gave them the assurance that the police is working and they were satisfied with what they saw and in terms of what we have. So they know that it is not a statistical arrest as some may want to say. And once they are happy and the people to whom we account are happy, then those who want to say things to create mischief or to try and create doubts in the work of the police, I say to them good luck.”

In court today, Espinosa was remanded to central prison until December eighteenth when disclosure will be given in the case. Following his arraignment, the Elvira Choc spoke about getting justice for her daughter’s death.

“I mi want to come see him earlier to see his face because I wanted to ask him what my daughter did to him that he took my daughter’s life. If my daughter owed him something, he should have come and tell me and like I said, maybe I could have sell everything that I have and give him what he want. But not my daughter’s life because life, you cannot bring it back. Things, you can sell, you can buy, you can earn it back. But life, it is just a life and it will not come back again. I really wanted to see his face, but I was trying to relax home because I was not sure how I would control myself when I am in front of him.  I cannot say I am happy, because they left me with my heart broken. But at least for my country and for my people, at least we are going to get justice and I hope it continue to be justice because it is not fear for us just to see his face climbing up and then after a few months or years, he comes out free. It is not fair for us, it is not fair for me and it is not fair for my family. All I want is justice and that’s it. I can’t ask nothing more because nothing can replace my child back.”
