National Gas Company Says its Presence Will Enhance Opportunities for Current Suppliers

The National Gas Company says that its presence in the supply chain for butane will not disrupt the distribution and retail sector and adds that regulated wholesale prices and quality will remain the same, encouraging further development and competition in the distribution and retail sectors of the LPG industry. In a release the company issued today, it states that its role will be to import, store and conduct wholesale of LPG. This will be done through the Big Creek Terminal and the two regional depots in Orange Walk and Belmopan. The LPG will now be brought into the country by ship and the company says that the three current importers Gas Tomza Limited, Belize Western Energy Limited and Southern Choice Butane Limited, who have their own ships, are encouraged to bid for the bulk supply to the terminal.  The retail infrastructure remains relevant and unaffected by the change. The company goes on the say that as consumption grows, and with the introduction of the terminal, new jobs and opportunities are expected. According to the company, the project ensures the supply of LPG to consumers will “be more secure and regulation of prices and quality will be significantly enhanced.”
