Columbia Teen Goes Missing After He is Released from Police Custody
Two minors are joining the list of missing persons. The first and most disturbing case is from Punta Gorda where seventeen-year-old Gilbert Francisco Chiac cannot be located. On Sunday, his sister reported to police that Gilbert has not been seen or heard from for days. It was later revealed that he, along with two other persons, was detained by police for a robbery and were released on September twenty-first from custody. The resident of Columbia Village, Stann Creek District, however, cannot be located. We asked the police today whether they suspect that something may have happened to him.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“What we know so far is that Gilbert Chiac along with two other persons were detained and in police custody. They were released on the twenty-first of September sometime around 6:30 a.m. They were detained pending investigation of a robbery, however, information to the police is that the complainant had since left the country and did not file an official report; hence the reason why they were released from custody. According to his sister, he has not been seen or heard from since he was released from police custody.”

“Does the police suspect that something is wrong?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“Not that we would know of, however, it is a missing person’s report so we are following up.”
Duane Moody
“Are the other two persons missing as well sir?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“No, well they have been released too so they are in the process of verifying from them whether or not he was with any of those two other persons.”
