Murder in the Old Capital: Shooting Victim Joseph Rowland Succumbs
There was a second murder recorded over the extended weekend In the Old Capital. Shooting victim Joseph Rowland succumbed at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. The thirty-one mechanic was critically injured and was clinging to life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following a drive-by shooting exactly one week ago. Rowland was in front of his house on Antelope Street, Belize City, speaking to another person when a gunman opened fire on them; he was hit to the rear and the vehicle sped off. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett told the media today that the case has been upgraded to a murder investigation and that several persons are in custody.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Over the weekend, I believe it was the twenty-first; he succumbed to those injuries whilst still being admitted at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Since the shooting, he was in a critical condition a little bit after being admitted and he remained in that condition until he succumbed to those injuries on the twenty-first of September. So far the investigation is still ongoing. Police have detained several persons. We had made several attempts to interview several key persons who were associated with Rowland, however, their cooperation at this time has not been forthcoming, but we will still continue to press forward in this investigation.”
