Even though it’s still early in the season semi-pro basketball has already proved popular in both Belize City and district towns. But in addition to courtside, the basketball association is taking the game into to a whole new arena; the World Wide Web. Troy Gabb, Commissioner of the Belize Basketball Association, explained what infotech fans can download from the internet.
Troy Gabb, Commissioner, Belize Basketball Association
“We have embarked on setting up a website which will be able to highlight all the scores, all the statistics of every game as they happen, as well as do cover stories. At the same time you will be able to do your all star voting. Send emails to your players and also to be able to have international audience log in to the website. And if possible maybe scouts from outside will look for players from Belize, who they may believe can assist them in playing on their teams. So it’s certainly going to be an asset for the players and the league in terms of spreading the word of Semi-pro Basketball both nationally and internationally.”

“So we can see statistics and what else?”
Troy Gabb
“You can definitely see the box scores, all the scores, the schedules for the entire season is on the website. You see scores for each game as well as highlights for each particular team and highlights on each player. Presently when you visit the website you’ll be able to see all the top ten scores in scores, rebounds, steals and turnovers. All those information are right there. The entire box score, the percentage shooting for the entire game per player and per team. So it is going to be easy for commentators and coaches to be able to make good decisions and analysis of the game.”
The website address is www.belizebasketball.com. But if you don’t want to wait for online statistics you can catch the BTL Nets versus the Corozal Kaus tonight at 9:00 at the Belize City Centre.
