Patrick Faber: “I Keep Very Cordial with Gaspar”
The rumoured return of Gaspar Vega in the political arena keeps churning. Vega, the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources resigned in 2016 following a land scandal which involved his son, Andre. He remains the area representative for Orange Walk North and had no intentions to seek political office once more. This gave way for Homero Novelo to step up as the Standard Bearer for the U.D.P. in that division. But with the PM demitting office and political life, both John Saldivar and Patrick Faber have thrown their hats in the ring to become the next leader of the U.D.P. It is now widely speculated that Vega is making a comeback and has aligned himself with Saldivar, something that Faber is not surprised about.
Patrick Faber, Aspiring Party Leader, U.D.P.
“Gaspar has been active to some point in the constituency. He has never left the party. That is that. As to his alignment with Saldivar, I would imagine that he would not support me if he does get involve in terms of being active in the campaign. I keep very cordial with Gaspar as well. I don’t have an issue with that. But I would imagine that if he has to pick a side I wouldn’t be my side. I am okay with that. That is how it is with the party.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Sir aren’t you worried in terms of cash because campaign needs finance and Gasper Vega is known to be a multi-millionaire, supporting Saldivar?”
Patrick Faber
“Well, I think people have observed the way- rather than talk about how my opponent would deal with their campaign I would like to ask people how I have ran my campaign. The kind of campaign that I run is backed by my own activity in the part for many years now as you’ve heard me say. It is backed by an engagement over the many years that no other candidate in this race can top.”
