Marconi Leal Challenging Registration of 72 Voters
The People’s United Party is challenging the registration of a long list of voters. Last week, leaked lists of several divisions showed the addresses of some houses with mass registration of electors. One of these residences is number fifty-six Regent Street which is the home registered by some fifty persons. The address though is known to the Albert Day Care Center. Then, there is fifty-seven Southern Foreshore where twenty-three persons supposedly live. The building, however, is for commercial use and rented by Attorney Herbert Panton, husband of Area Representative Tracy Taegar-Panton. The P.U.P. has filed notices to challenge these registrations and the P.U.P.’s Standard Bearer for Belize Rural North Marconi Leal presented himself at the Magistrate Court in Belize City this morning. Leal is challenging seventy-two registered voters in that area. He says that individuals do not live there. The case was adjourned to Friday to allow for proper notice. Leal told the media why the voters should not be on the list.

“We are challenging seventy-one names.”

“And you know for a fact that they are not living there?”

“Yes, I know for a fact they are not living there.”

“And you say it’s all over…”
Marconi Leal
“It’s all over rural north. Different Villages like Rhaburn Ridge, Maskall, Sandhill, they’re all over. The list has been padding all over again. We just recently did a re-registration last year. We are having Mennonites from Shipyard getting registered in Boston, a village that is right beside Sandhill. I used to be the Chairman in Sandhill, now I am the Standard Bearer, and I know these people. So, I am sure. We will challenge them in court.”

“What kind of verification process did you and your colleagues employ to find out if indeed if these individuals reside where they say they are?”

“Well, obviously I don’t know.”
