Opposition Leader: G.O.B. Not Serious in Tracking Suspected Drug Planes

John Briceño

While police investigate this most recent jet landing, the Opposition Leader John Briceño says government is not taking the matter of taking these suspected drug planes as seriously as it should be. Here is what he told the media in a press briefing today.

John Briceño, Leader of Opposition

“There is a radar that can track a plane even when they take off the transponder because that is what they do when they are coming close they take off their transponders so the regular radars can’t track them. But, with this radar, I am told again, I am no expert that it will cost about two million US to buy one. I am sure we can find two million dollars US to buy that and if not I am sure that we can talk to our friends, friends like the Americans that they would be able to help us in getting access to one and by doing that we will be to track these planes way before they come into our airspace and once they come into your airspace you know exactly where they are going and then we can alert the police to be able to interdict them. But I don’t see the political will on the part of the government to be able address these issues and until we have the real political will to address this head-on it is unfortunate we’re going to continue to have more planes landing in Belize.”
