Students sit P.S.E. exam

Story Picture
Today was the big day for five thousand five hundred and fifty-six students across the nation who sat the Primary School Examination. The exam was introduced last year to replace the Belize National Selection Examination, and aims to better assess candidates for entrance into high school. News 5’s Jose Sanchez spoke to some of the standard six students during their lunch break.

Jose Sanchez

“Were you nervous when you went into the exam room this morning?”

Ricky Perera, St. Joseph School

“Sort of.”

Jose Sanchez

“What was it like taking the exam?”

Ricky Perera

“It was mostly easy, as our teacher gave us a mock P.S.E. to know more or less what we would do.”

Jose Sanchez

“What in particular did you find easy?”

Ricky Perera

“The math.”

Jose Sanchez

“So you think you’ll get into high school?”

Ricky Perera

“Yeah.”

Jose Sanchez

“Which high school do you want to attend?”

Ricky Perera

“This same high school, St. John’s.”

Karen Flores, St. Joseph School

“I felt a bit nervous, but I told myself to be calm and if I don’t stress myself, I’ll pass it good.”

Jose Sanchez

“How did you find the exam?”

Karen Flores

“Kind of hard but yet it’s still easy because once you study you get it easy and you have more chances to pass.”

Jose Sanchez

“So you think you did well?”

Karen Flores

“Yes. I think I did well and also think I will do much better this afternoon.”

Harrison King, Central Christian School

“This morning I felt nervous I didn’t know what to expect or how I would do. When I saw the papers, I knew it was things we learned already and so it came back to me and some of them were easy. We took the math a few minutes ago. That was kinda hard but most of it we already knew.”

Japhet Martinez, Central Christian School

“I was kind of nervous, but I went through it and I think I’ll pass the P.S.E.”

Cristal Lazaro Trinity Methodist School

“Well I felt a little bit jumpy when I sat down to take the exam. My favourite subject is composition. I did feel very hard. I started to write and put in my all that I have studied and wrote exciting things. I know if I can do it, everybody can do it.”

The results for the P.S.E. should be ready by the middle of June.
