Norris Meighan Senior Guilty of Possession of Conch During Closed Season
Norris Meighan Senior, four of his sons and another man were found on the vessel ‘Carlita M’ in possession of three hundred and ninety-nine conchs during the closed season. They were busted by Fisheries Officer Nikkeon Gomez on September thirtieth, a day shy from the opening of the conch season. Appearing in court along with the older Meighan were his sons: Norris Junior, Marco, Carl and Romario as well as their friend, Melvin McKay. They appeared before Magistrate Khadeen Palmer where the father took the rap. Initially, all pleaded not guilty, but the seasoned fisherman was very concerned as to their livelihood so when the magistrate offered bail, Norris changed his plea to guilty. He was fined two hundred dollars which he was ordered to pay by November first, 2019. Additionally, Norris was charged a total of seven thousand nine hundred and eighty dollars for the conch.
