22-Year-Old Remanded for Robbing Elderly Man

A ninety-year-old man was the victim of a broad daylight robbery earlier this week. Just seconds after Llewellyn Tillett had withdrawn money from the Saint John’s Credit Union on Basra Street, he was jacked of two thousand dollars.  The robbery was captured on surveillance camera and today, twenty-two-year-old Aaron Munnings was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on a single charge of robbery. Munnings pleaded not guilty to the charge.   Prosecutor Corporal Hilberto Ruiz had heavy objections to bail due to the prevalence and serious nature of the offense.  Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson agreed and denied bail to Munnings and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until December fourth, 2019.  Police say that the elderly man was accosted by a man who threw him off his bicycle and grabbed his money and rushed off into the direction of Tigris Street. Footage showed as the elderly man slowly rode off on his bicycle in the direction of the Saint Ignatius Church. But before he could cross the intersection of Basra with Tigris Street, a man—believed to be Munnings—approached and struggled with Tillett, robbed him of the cash and ran off.
