P.S.U. says Battle for Hilltop to be Taken to Court
The Public Service Union is not giving up its headquarters in Belmopan so easily. Last month, attorney Estevan Perrera sent the P.S.U. a letter on behalf of Simplex Designs Limited, which acquired the property. The letter told P.S.U. President Gerald Henry that the property must be vacated by October thirty-first, 2019. Perrera warned the P.S.U. that failure to comply will result in eviction. Well, the P.S.U. has decided that the matter will proceed to court. A release issued today states that based on additional information provided to the union and based on legal advice; the Council of Management has unanimously decided to have a court decide on the property. The release says, “The nature of Law is very simple; changes in circumstances or one key piece of evidence can determine a case. In this regard, we believe that we have found this critical piece of evidence.” Win or lose, the P.S.U. says it will march in unity. Meanwhile, the union is looking to secure an additional property to safeguard the stability and continuity of the P.S.U. The union’s HQ was sold by the Belmopan City Council to a Corozal Asian businessman, the owner of Simplex Designs Limited.
