Gunshot victim to receive treatment abroad

Story Picture
The struggle of a local woman, has hopefully taken a positive turn. On March thirtieth Sharette Augustus was shot, the victim of a bullet meant for one of her companions. As a result, she has loss the use of a kidney and is also experiencing failure of the other. Because Belize lacks the expertise to treat her condition, family and friends have raised over fifteen thousand dollars to send the twenty-six year old mother abroad for an operation. Philip Bracket, a friend of the family, says that while they are thankful for the support, there is one more favour they would like to ask of the public.

Philip Bracket, Family Friend

“The family would like to ask that while Sharette is over there that if possible, those who may be able to send a fax to the hospital, if they can do that to try to build up her spirits. We have noticed that when people go and visit her she is usually in much higher spirits and we are thinking that because she is so far away, that sort of support that she was getting from here will certainly not be there. But if they can send a fax, a little love note, a note to encourage her along, I think that will go a long way.”

In case you would like to send a message of support, you can do so in care of Sharette’s mother, Linda Nunez. The fax number for the clinic in Merida is 00-52-99-258081. Sharette Augustus leaves for medical treatment in Merida tomorrow.
