American Retiree Trapped in Belize without Visitor’s Permit
A retired U.S. national, who did not board a cruise ship in mid-September, is now illegal in Belize. Fifty-year-old Edward Francis Kilgour, the third, appeared before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitt Anderson to answer to a charge of failure to comply with the conditions of his visitor’s permit when he failed to produce his documents to the Immigration Officer on demand on Thursday. He pleaded guilty to the offense, was fined one thousand dollars and spared jail time. Kilgour’s attorney told the court that he is suffering from a chronic illness and has a special diet. His attorney also sought and obtained the court’s permission to have Kilgour stay with a family until his next court date a week from today on Friday. The U.S. Embassy is assisting with his travel documents and Kilgour says he wants to leave ASAP.
