Will the D.P.P. Pursue Case Against Calaney Flowers?
So, is this matter over for Calaney Flowers? Her attorney, Anthony Sylvestre, says that the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution has a time frame of forty-two days to appeal today’s decision of it so considers.
Anthony Sylvestre, Attorney for Calaney Flowers
“All proceedings against here they have come to an end as it relates to this particular matter that you related. I cannot say and I am sure she would not publicly say what she will now do but as it relates to all proceedings in this matter it has come to an end. You are right. It was an incident which gritted the Belizean public and the proceedings after so many years has come to this particular part. The D.P.P., they would still have a right to appeal the decision just being made by the Court of Appeal. Such a decision can be made within forty-two days from the date when this court of appeal produces its written decision. So that is foreseeable possibility but of course I can’t speak what possible options the D.P.P. may or may not wish to take at this point in time. As a matter of law, that is a recourse that they would have.”
