St. John’s Credit Union hit by burglars
It seems as though holiday weekends have become synonymous with big money bank jobs. Last month two hundred and seventy thousand dollars was heisted from the Belize Bank in San Ignacio. This time eight thousand U.S. dollars were stolen from St. John’s Credit Union on Basra Street in Belize City. Reports are that sometime between Holy Thursday afternoon when the credit union closed for business and Tuesday morning when it re-opened, someone forced open the side door and gained entrance to the building. The robber or robbers broke open a desk drawer where the money was found. But things could have been worse. The thieves also tried to break into an iron safe, but were unsuccessful. If you were wondering what eight thousand U.S. dollars was doing in a desk drawer, reports are that the manager was holding the cash for a friend.
