Ignatius Williams is Sentenced to 2 Years for Attempted Murder

Ignatius Williams, a notorious figure of the Saint Martin’s de Porres area, was convicted late on Monday in the Supreme Court for the stabbing of a Field Service Technician of Belize City.  A jury of nine stepped into the deliberating room before noon and emerged some three hours later concluding that Williams is guilty of attempted murder. Williams was charged with the attempted murder of Jerome Sylvester Locke, which occurred on October twenty-third, 2015 at the corner of Fern Lane and Jasmine Streets, Belize City. Locke survived and when the trial kicked off before Justice Colin Williams, he testified as the crown’s main witness. Williams was unrepresented and denied the allegations. But the jury found him guilty and Justice Williams sentenced him to two years imprisonment. Locke also testified that he and two other men were riding bicycles on Fern Lane, returning from his girlfriend’s house, when he was approached by Williams. Uncertain if he was talking to him, Locke said he stopped riding his bicycle and the man who was on a motorcycle approached him, asked a question, and then left. Locke says Williams returned and they got into a heated exchange and he was stabbed. Williams is no stranger to police or the courts. He has been charged for rape, attempted murder and other offenses.
