No Attorney Wants to Represent Bert Vasquez

Bert Vasquez

The infamous Bert Vasquez appeared in the Court of Appeal this afternoon. Vasquez, who remains incarcerated on sex charges, appeared unrepresented to appeal a 2018 conviction for forcible abduction and sexual assault on a sixteen-year-old female minor.  In June, Vasquez told the court that no attorney wanted to take his case and he sought to enter new evidence.  The Court of Appeal denied his request and allowed him time to find an attorney.  That time has elapsed and Vasquez told the court today that the price tag that some attorneys are asking is beyond his means.  The court traversed his matter to the March session of the Court of Appeal, allowing Vasquez more time to retain the services of an attorney or argue his case unrepresented. Exiting the courtroom, Bert Vasquez spoke to News Five’s Hipolito Novelo.

Hipolito Novelo

“Mr. Vasquez would you want to say anything.”

Bert Vasquez, Appellant

“No just that I maintain my innocence (interrupted).”

Hipolito Novelo

“Is it that you can’t afford an attorney or no one wants to represent you?”

Bert Vasquez

“Both of them.”
