Former Magistrate’s Court Secretary is Guilty of Theft
A secretary for the Dangriga Magistrate’s Court was convicted of theft at the Dangriga Magistrate’s Court for theft. Forty-nine year-old Dorkas Caliz was charged for stealing one thousand dollars from the Court on December sixth, 2013. The magistrate imposed a non-custodial sentence upon the former senior court employee and she was fined two thousand dollars or in default, two years imprisonment. Caliz was also ordered to pay compensation to the victim, Oliver Natividad in the sum of one thousand dollars. And while the senior employee was convicted, prosecutor in the case, Senior Superintendent Rodriquez was unable to seal a conviction against Junior Cashier, Janay Ciego, for two counts of theft which amounted to four thousand three hundred dollars.
The theft was detected during an audit in January fifteenth, 2018 when discrepancies were found on two receipts. But the case against Ciego her fall apart when the prosecutor was unable to get witnesses to testify against her and the magistrate dismissed the two counts of theft charges. Both women have been relieved of their jobs.
