Is Khalid on John’s Convention Dream Team?

In Belmopan, Mayor Belisle and Area Representative John Saldivar share a strong political alliance, campaigning for each other in their respective pursuits.  Saldivar has put together a slate which covers the various posts within the party.  So, is Mayor Belisle on that roster?

Isani Cayetano

“Now Mayor Belisle, you’re known to be a strong supporter of Belmopan Area Rep John Saldivar who has offered himself for the post of party leader.  Are you in support of his candidacy, as in being on his slate, or how are you running for this position?”

On the Phone: Khalid Belisle, Candidate, Deputy Chairman

“To be quite open and honest with you, when I submitted my application last week Friday it was not a part of any slate.  I had observed particularly Mr. Peyrefitte’s interview earlier in the week in which he expressed belief that, I don’t know if it’s that the party’s constitution preferred that the post of chairman that he’s contesting were to remain neutral in any races.  But, you know, I had not communicated with either of the two aspirants for the post of party leader before submitting my application and so it was kind of, it was from a neutral standpoint that I approached my application when I did so last week.”

“Any final words in respect of what you’re going to be doing in terms of seeking votes from the delegates regarding this position that you’re vying for?”

On the Phone: Khalid Belisle

“We’re in the early stages post our application deadline and so I think the majority of aspirants besides, of course, those two who are vying for party leader position having been on the ground for some months now, I believe, in both cases, the majority of the other aspirants are really now just getting their acts together in regards to the approach they’ll take.  I think, from what I’ve picked up, the majority of people are actually waiting for constituency or divisional delegates to be selected because that’s an ongoing exercise.  So it’s not that we even know who it is that’s going to be voting in the convention on the ninth of February.  So it’s really just a planning phase for me at this time with the understanding that yes, I am going to have to reach out to all five hundred plus delegates that are eligible to vote come that February convention in order to convince them to support my candidacy.”
