Still No Charges in Belmopan Beheading of Michael Gladden

Michael Gladden

Several persons, from Cotton Tree and Roaring Creek Villages, were picked up and remain detained as the investigation continues into the beheading of Michael Gladden. But still charges have yet to be levied against anyone for the heinous crime. On the night of his gruesome murder, Gladden was seen partying at a nightclub in Belmopan with persons he was not known to normally hand out with It is not yet been determined what occurred when he left the club, but by eight o’clock on Sunday morning, his headless body was discovered in bushes off the Mount Pleasant Road on the George Price Highway. His severed head was found on Monday morning as family and police searched the area. Brett Smith, Gladden’s older cousin, was the one who made the find sometime before eleven a.m.; he says that the family will now be able to give him a proper burial.

“Everybody knows Michael around here even in Belmopan. He is not a trouble person; he does not mess around with anybody like that. He is the kind that drinks his rum, loves to party. Apart from that, Michael has no, no, no kind of problem with no one; nothing. So what happened? We are clueless; we don’t know and we can’t pinpoint anything because he is not that type of person. What happened that night is….  For us it’s hard, for me it is hard. But the only thing for me is that I am glad that we found his head that he could have a proper burial. That was one of our main concerns that he wasn’t going to have a proper burial without his head. But now that we found it, I called my aunt right away and I told her and she was like thank you Brett. I am happy now. She is happy, but she is still sad knowing that it is a loved one that is loss.”
