Police bust four for 6 lbs. of heroin
It is not a narcotic of choice for Belizean addicts, but that didn’t stop drug runners from using Belize as a transshipment point for a small fortune in heroin. Police managed to nip this deal in the bud, however, as two Hondurans, one Colombian and one Nicaraguan were busted with over six pounds of the powerful substance sometimes referred to as scag, horse or just plain “H”. Acting on a tip, officers intercepted the four in a car parked in front of the Venus Bus terminal in Belize City around noon on Friday. The heroin was found in six parcels strapped to the waists of the Colombian, thirty-two year old Carlos Narvaez and twenty-three year old Nicaraguan Reynaldo Brown. Those two, along with Honduran Florentino Witty and Coverian Jimenez were today jointly arraigned in Magistrate’s Court on charges of drug trafficking, importing a controlled drug, conspiracy and illegal entry. Bail was denied and the men were remanded to Hattieville Prison until May seventh. Police are looking for a fifth suspect, Belizean Freddy Ayuso, who they believe was also involved in the transaction. Police postulate that the drugs and men came into Belize via boat from Guatemalan and were planning to export the heroin to the United States.
