Robbers hit two Belize City businesses
A Belizean owned hotel and a Chinese shop were both jacked of over thirteen hundred dollars during a pair of robberies last night in Belize City. Police say Fiona Harris, thirty-eight, a receptionist at the Belcove Hotel on Regent Street West, reported that while in the office at around 8:45, a dark complexioned man entered the back door, held her up with a handgun and demanded money. Harris subsequently handed over three hundred dollars, after which her assailant ran out of the front door.
Huien Chen of Vernon Street was even less lucky as he lost both money and his vehicle’s windshield. Around eleven-thirty Chen heard a loud noise outside his shop. Apparently his windshield had just been smashed. When he went outside to see what happened, he was held up by two gunmen who forced him back in the shop and demanded his cash. He relinquished over one thousand dollars to the armed men. As if that weren’t enough, the pair ransacked Chen’s bedroom where they stole an additional amount of money. No suspects have yet been detained in either crime.
