Standoff with gunman ends peacefully
A tense situation on Zericote Street ended peacefully last night as an angry man with a gun finally surrendered to police. Emerson Guild was embroiled in a dispute over a piece of land with one Stanley Francis. The two had a confrontation at Francis’s residence on Queen Charlotte Street that ended with Guild firing two shots from a handgun at the house. When, after receiving a complaint from Francis, police visited Guild’s house they were met by gunfire. The police retreated and attempted to negotiate, and were finally successful when Guild’s brothers along with leader of the Opposition Dean Barrow, convinced Guild to surrender. Police confiscated Guild’s licensed nine-millimeter pistol, and charged him for six counts of aggravated assault. He appeared in court this afternoon where he was granted and met bail of two thousand five hundred dollars.
