Mayor Bernard Wagner Clarifies Water Shortage at City Hall
The Belize City Council says it is in the process of seeking legal advice to take action against the Guardian’s Newspaper for an article published regarding a shortage of water at City Hall. The council says it considered the remarks defamatory. According to Mayor Bernard Wagner, the cause of the temporary water outage was due to a broken pipe which has now been repaired.
Bernard Wagner, Belize City Mayor
“When we reached at the offices we had a break in a pipe at the City Hall. It took our team about four, five hours to get it back up and running but where you have people in our midst deliberately, continuously read out false rumours I don’t know where it will take us as a country, where it will take us as a nation. We can’t continue down this road where all these petty back and forth innuendos, fake news keep rearing its ugly head. What it does it prevents the work of the City Council. These types of events that we have to be addressing continuously really eats out at the heart of us performing our function as a city.”

“What caused the break in the pipe?”
Bernard Wagner
“As you know we just moved in to a new City Hall. These things occur. We have had new tenants taking up occupancy in the lower level. Probably that is what occurred.”
