New judge begins work on Monday
Efforts to restore confidence in Belize’s system of justice are beginning to pay off, as on Monday a new judge of the Supreme Court will be welcomed to the bench. The entire court will sit in special session to swear in Samuel Lungole-Awich as the fourth sitting justice in the high court. Lungole-Awich was educated in Uganda and has held a number of posts in Botswana and the Solomon Islands. He joins Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh and Justices Troadio Gonzalez and George Meerabux as members of Belize’s highest court of original jurisdiction. It is understood that a fifth Supreme Court judge will be coming to Belize from Barbados in late April or May.
