Action due soon on illegal settlement
In other news from the frontier we are reliably informed that action will soon be taken to remove illegal Guatemalan residents from a settlement they now inhabit in Belize. Under an agreement with the Guatemalan government a team from the International Organisation on Migration will conduct a survey of the community at Edwards Central in the Columbia River Forest to determine the value of crops and buildings. As was done at previous illegal settlements, the inhabitants will then be given the chance to accept compensation paid by the Guatemalan government and leave voluntarily or be forcibly evicted by Belizean authorities. It is also understood that the I.O.M. will be asked to make a sweep of the general southern border area to make sure that no new illegal encampments have sprung up.
