New consulate opened in Chetumal

Belizeans travelling to Mexico stand to benefit from increased diplomatic representation across the border. On Sunday a new Belize consulate was inaugurated in Chetumal by Prime Minister Said Musa. The office, Located at 91 Avenida Armada de Mexico, is manned by Consul General Rick Moguel and will be open daily from nine a.m. to one p.m. Moguel says that in emergencies he will be available outside of office hours to help Belizeans in distress. On hand for the opening ceremonies was Governor of Quintana Roo, Joaquin Hendricks. He was joined by Belizean Deputy Prime Minister Johnny Briceno, Corozal area representatives Vildo Marin and Greg Garcia, as well as CEOs David Gibson and Alan Usher. In addition to the new consulate in Chetumal, Belize’s official presence in Mexico includes a consulate in Cancun, an honourary consul in Monterey and an embassy in Mexico City. Another honourary consul will soon be appointed in Tijuana.
