Grinage Brothers Freed of Murder Charge
John and Sheldon Grinage were freed on Thursday for the murder of thirty-two-year-old Mariano Castillo. Crown Counsel Portia Staine-Ferguson entered a nolle prosequi since a witness could not be located. The trial started on weak legs since Kamisha Roches, an eyewitness and Castillo’s girlfriend at the time, recanted the statement that she gave to the police. Justice Colin Williams also determined that a statement from Roches was inadmissible since he was not convinced that Roches had written the statement. With little to no evidence, Justice Williams then discharged the Grinange brothers. In the morning of January thirtieth, 2016, Mariano Castillo, a former resident of Georgetown Village, Stann Creek District, was fatally stabbed while walking with his girlfriend on Mahogany Street Extension in Belize City.
