AHRMED Concludes after Twenty-four Months of Training at the Y
The Young Women’s Christian Academy, YWCA, held a closing ceremony this afternoon for a two-year program funded by the European Union. Addressing Human Rights for More Equitable Development, AHRMED, saw as many as eight hundred and ninety women from across the country participate in training that will empower them to participate in equitable development.
Dr. Sheree Smiling-Craig, President, Y.W.C.A.
“Today, we commemorate the closing of the Addressing Human Rights for More Equitable Development, AHRMED. The project targeted marginalized women and youth, fifteen years and older who fall in the low income bracket, or released from custodial care, indigenous people, differently able, immigrants and students. The overall objective of this twenty-four month project was advocacy for and protection of human rights for women and youths and improvement of gender equity. To achieve this larger objective, both our headquarters in Belize City and our resource center in Belmopan impacted eight hundred and ninety women and nine men. This target population were vulnerable and youth and we provided them with knowledge, the capacity to better themselves and skills to impact and protect their own selves against abuse to obtain more income and to help others facing abuse to protect their rights.”
