UB Students Host Benefit Event
A group of U.B. students is hosting a benefit fashion show later this week and they would like your support. The six students are undertaking their undergraduate studies and as a part of their requirements for the Convention and Events Course, they are to plan and execute an event for a final grade. The team is planning a male fashion show that will benefit a small N.G.O. that operates on the south side of Belize City. The students have the support of some sponsors, but they have also had to take money out of their pockets to hold the event, so today Kimara Card and Brittney Saragoza stopped by News Five to tell us why you should support them.
Kimara Card, UB Student
“The event had to be attached to a cause or a purpose. The cause or the purpose that we have chosen is the organization LIFE. It is a non-profit on southside Belize City. It helps with transportation for them; social security; doctor visits to the mercy clinic; socials and we are planning a Christmas party for them as we do that every year. With that, we decided to give a portion of the proceeds to the organization LIFE to facilitate whatever they need to do this.”

“How are you going to raise this money?”
Kimara Card
“The event is called Mr. Fashion Trends. It is a male fashion show. We solicited the help of some familiar faces across the city; some of the men have agreed to help us do the modeling. We have also solicited the help of some of the businesses that sell men apparel and so they are sponsoring some of the apparel they will be wearing. It promises to be a very good event because male doing fashion is not common and we hope that it is something that people can continue to do. It is to show that men can be fashionable at a bargain price. So, just inviting the men to come out to see how you can be fashionable at a bargain price; and the females also to watch the men.”
Brittney Saragoza, UB Student
“It is going to be awesome and it is for a worthy cause supporting the elderly; the charity called LIFE. It is also important because it is a final grade for our project at school; an exam grade. We would like to acknowledge our sponsors; Belize Biltmore Plaza; The Audubon Society; Dress for Less; Peek-a-boo; Fresh Look Barber Shop; Hook Up Bargain Center; Crystal Paradise Resort.”
The event takes place at the Biltmore on Thursday night from eight to ten p.m. and the cover charge is forty-dollars. To get tickets, call 630-7861 or 633-7866. Entertainment will be provided by Audreanna Taylor and DJ Ice. You will also have the opportunity to win prizes during the show.
