Julian Cho: Still No Principal at the Toledo High School
There are new developments at Julian Cho Technical High School in Toledo District where the board of directors met this evening at four o’clock to determine who will be the next principal of the secondary school. Since November nineteenth, the institution has been without a principal since there is a deadlock on who will assume the vacancy. News Five understands that there were two candidates vying for the post, including Doctor Simeon Coc and Doctor Kent Arzu. Coc, who has reached retirement age and has stepped down, was deemed ineligible due to a clause in the terms of reference. Doctor Arzu who has been at Julian Cho for the past seventeen years is next in line to become the principal but is not considered an option by the existing board. He explains the deadlock.

“Recently I applied for the position of principal of Julian Cho Technical High School. I went through two interviews, the first interview of course, the first and second interviews I was unsuccessful. The results were sent to the Teaching Services Commission, it was reviewed by them. At the end of that review they sent information to our board expressing that it would be best to go with the second candidate who was me. Since then I was also given an interim position for three months which ended on the nineteenth of November which was approximately five days ago. At this time there is no principal at the school.”

“My understanding is that you were one of two candidates who applied for the job, the other individual being Dr. Simeon Coc. What is the situation in respect of his eligibility and why you’re overlooked for the post?”
On the Phone: Dr. Kent Arzu
“From what I garnered from the response of the Teaching Services Commission, there are three grounds under which he cannot qualify. One was the retirement/re-hirement clause which means that preference should be given to a younger candidate. The second reason was because he had already retired and there was someone who was younger, had similar scores as him on the interview. They also referenced that I could also continue with the school for another ten years. So these were the bases on which he was denied the position and I was allowed to take the school into the new school year.”
