Taxi Driver Detained for Unlicensed Firearm
Today, forty-six-year-old taxi driver Jorge Sanchez of Ranchito Village was formally arrested and charged for firearm offences. Sanchez appeared before the Corozal Magistrate Court where he was arraigned for possession of a firearm and ammunition without a license. The taxi operator pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until January twenty-seventh 2020. According to police, they were called out to the northern border sometime around two-thirty on Monday afternoon where officials were handed over one nine millimetre pistol, along with a magazine which contained thirteen rounds of ammunition. Police say that Sanchez’s taxi was searched during a routine vehicle check as he was crossing the border that day when the firearm and ammunition were found inside his van.
