3 detained but no major break in bank heist
A third person has been detained in the whopping weekend bank heist in San Ignacio. Sources in the Police Department declined to identify the trio brought in for questioning, except to say that they are not employees of the bank. Observers have speculated that the team of crooks who bored into the vault from a storm drain which runs under the Belize Bank, could not have known the precise spot to drill without some sort of inside information on the layout of the building. The exact amount of the missing cash, including some coins, has now been pegged at two hundred and sixty-three thousand, six hundred and five dollars in Belize currency and an additional four thousand, five hundred and thirty-four dollars in U.S. greenbacks, making a total of nearly two hundred and seventy-three thousand Belize dollars. To make matters worse, the thieves also carried off the bank’s thirty-eight special revolver loaded with five bullets.
