Gross Negligence Suspected in Death of Jose Espinosa
An internal investigation is underway into the death of Jose Espinosa. He was found dead in a holding cell at the Queen Street Police Station on Wednesday evening. Espinosa reportedly committed suicide two hours after being detained. Investigators say that he hung himself with his shoelace. Today, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams told the media that there is some degree of gross negligence on the part of the officers who dealt with Espinosa.

“I have directed an internal investigation to that matter. From what I have been briefed there is some degree of gross negligence on the part of the officers who dealt with the deceased. I have referred the matter to Professional Standard Branch and chips will fall where they may.”
