Special Olympics Torch Run Aims to Raise $10K
Since 2012, the Belize Police Department has been hosting a torch run to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics Belize. This year the department is backed up by other law enforcement agencies and kicked off the run in Punta Gorda. The goal is to raise ten thousand dollars this year and national coordinator Aaron Ferguson of the Belize Police Department says they are on schedule to meet that goal. Here’s more about the event.
Aaron Ferguson, National Coordinator, Law Enforcement Torch Run Special Olympics Belize
“The law enforcement torch run is an initiative where law officials raise funds and awareness for persons with intellectual disabilities. It has been happening since 2012 and ever since we have been traversing across the country of Belize doing just that. We started in PG this week; Intermediate Southern Formation; Dangriga; Belmopan; Benque Viejo; San Ignacio and we recently came from San Pedro. We are proceeding to Corozal and then Orange Walk and commemorate the national games on Friday, December sixth. Along the route we have some jars with us and we have to say big kudos to everybody coming out to support. Our aim is to raise ten thousand dollars and we are nearing that and so I believe we can certainly exceed that goal we have this year. We have the coast guard, customs, BDF and fire department and Kolbe backing up this initiative. It is a proud moment for us as law enforcement officials.”
