Opposition Writes Lending Institutions over Imer Hernandez’s Contracts
In response to the statement made by Briceño, Prime Minister Dean Barrow defended Hernandez saying that these contracts are awarded by international entities which carry out their due diligence.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“You start off accusing this government of giving all these contracts to Imer, contracts that he doesn’t deserve because again you say he is a worthless contractor but you end up having to admit that certainly with respect to the last two contracts, the contracts have not been given by the United Democratic Party administration. These are international contracts awarded by international government and financial institutions after a process that has to pass the greatest possible degree of internal scrutiny, IDB, CDB, the British, OFID, OPEC. Every single one of them continues to give Imer Hernandez contracts on the basis that they who have been operating in this country for years and years and who like you say know exactly how the runnings go in Belize on the basis that they are satisfied not only that he qualifies but that he does good work and therefore deserves to be award the contracts that they give them.”
