6 years in prison… for weed

We don’t often report marijuana busts, except perhaps when large plantations are discovered and thousands of plants put to the torch. The one we report tonight is unusual, however, not for the quantity, which at five pounds of cannabis is worth only a few thousand dollars, but for the severity of the sentence. Ramon Cus of San Pedro Columbia Village in Toledo was convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to six years in Hattieville Prison plus a twenty thousand dollar fine. At a time when child molesters, rapists and gun toting robbers are receiving far lesser punishment, it seems that the scales of justice are badly in need of adjustment.
