Vida Magdaleno condemns brutal killing of Jasmin Garcia
Well-known Dangriga artist, Elsworth ‘Vida’ Magdaleno, spoke with News 5 this evening to condemn the killing of Jasmin Garcia. Garcia, as we told you, was killed and her body dumped in the sea in Dangriga. She is Magdaleno’s first cousin and today the artist says that while this killing has hit home for his family, police and the community must work together to restore peace in the once harmonious town.
Elsworth ‘Vida’ Magdaleno, Cousin of the deceased
“She was a very mannerly person, jovial, always happy. Whenever we have any private function, mien, she was the life of the party. She was well loved. She was a very humble person, very hype but – we are supposed to be preparing for a wedding. That is what our family was coming together for this December for but now happened and we gotta prepare for a funeral now. I think the police are not doing enough and as the people, too, stop be afraid to come out as witnesses and talk because when it knocks at your door it is not a very good feeling. You gotta be very careful and look out for each other. Our town was not like this. Dangriga was a peaceful place and you could walk there any time of the night and nothing happens, but now you have to be very careful because things are getting very hot in Dangriga. We as musicians as well, we have to try write some songs about this – and not just writing songs – but push more about crime and violence in our country because what will happen to our children in the future if this is out of hand already? Imagine five ten years from now?”
