Police and Business Community Discuss Citizen Security in Belmopan
ComPol Williams also addressed the media following this evening’s meeting and spoke of increased measures that will be put in place to ramp up police presence in the Garden City, during the Christmas Season and beyond.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Well first and foremost I must say thanks to Mr. Chanona, the Mayor of Belmopan, and the other persons from the Belmopan business community who came to visit this afternoon and we had a healthy discussion in terms of looking at the way forward where policing in Belmopan is concerned. I must say that we are policing in tough times and there are some criminals out there who are hell-bent on committing crime and as a police we must always ensure that we put things in place to deter them from committing these crimes. And while there may be some who expect the police to do it all, we will emphasize the point that it is not a police issue, it is not a government issue, it is a community issue and so we have pledged to work together, myself, the mayor, Mr. Chanona and the businesspeople of Belmopan to ensure that we face this problem head-on.”
