Belizeans Robbed in Chetumal by Taxi Driver & Accomplices
If you are traveling to Chetumal anytime soon you are being advised to be alert of your surroundings and especially so of taxi drivers. That’s because a group of Belizeans was robbed on Saturday night while in neighbouring Chetumal. According to online reports, a couple of Belizeans took a cab at Plaza Las Américas and asked the taxi driver to take them to the hotel where they were staying. One of the victims reported that the taxi driver was talking on the phone and uttered the words “La Guadalupana is loaded, hurry up”- believed to be code for his accomplices. So when the Belizeans arrived at the entrance of their hotel, two persons were waiting; one of them produced a handgun and held them up. The Mexican thieves demanded that the Belizeans hand over all that they had. The culprits made off with eighteen thousand pesos, nine hundred U.S. dollars, two hundred Belize dollars, two passports, cell phones, and gold chains and bracelets. The thieves escaped onboard a black Yamaha motorcycle.
