The residents of the Youth Hostel kicked off their holiday season today with the Development Finance Corporation.  The DFC treated the youths to lunch, fun activities and gifts.

Aidan Palacio, Sr. Credit Officer/ Gender Champion – DFC

Aidan Palacio

“We are here to share our corporate social responsibility. We were charged with the task of making an impact on society. So, we decided to come to the Belize Youth Hostel and we are just having a little Christmas cheer.”

“What was the reaction of the children?”

Aidan Palacio

“They were quite pleased. You can see that we made a difference and an impact in their lives because we believe that they need love as well. And we are here to offer that little bit of hope to them especially during this time.”

DFC also left a permanent, physical mark at the youth hostel. They created a cozy reading corner for the youth. They also gifted them with baskets of supplies:

“We spoke with the director and he informed us that they are trying to promote reading, so we sponsored a reading corner. The gift hamper is the necessities. We know that the youth hostel is always in need. They cater to both males and females and we wanted to make it a little bit easier for them. So, we provided cleaning products, sanitary products, food items and we also provided the reading items as well to read and believe and to keep on dreaming big.”

Palacio says that the DFC is undertaking a number of charitable initiatives for the holidays. This event at the Youth Hostel is organized by the staff of the Belize City Branch office. She encourages other organizations spread more cheer this holiday season.

Aidan Palacio

“We were upstairs, in full force dishing out the meals and created the reading corner. Even before coming out here today, everyone was excited to come here. We were running errands, getting everything together everything ready for the kids.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, I imagine it is a treat for the kids and it is also something rewarding for the DFC staff?”

Aidan Palacio

“Certainly, indeed. I would just like to charge any other corporation to adopt a place like the youth hostel. The hostel has so much to offer. Today we spoke to some of the staff and they were like, ‘ mien, it is rare when we hear somebody coming to the hostel,’ So, make this something on your resolution list for 2020. Come out into society and share the love and support to those who need it.”
