Murder trial of Cameron Harris closes, 6 testified
The case of twenty-year old Cameron Harris for the 2016 murder of twenty-seven year old Nelson Zelaya closed today; six witnesses testified in court. Zelaya was killed in his yard in Gardenia village. The prosecution’s main witness, who was nine months pregnant and the common-law wife of the deceased, told the court that she witnessed the shooting of her common-law husband. But attorney Leeroy Banner submitted that the witness did not have a clear view of the individual since she only saw him from behind and appears to have mistaken the accused, with another individual known as Cameron Dominguez. She also testified she knew the accused, and it was a bright sunny day. With those inconsistencies, Banner told the court that his client does not have a case to answer. However, Senior Crown Counsel Shanice Lovell disagreed arguing that the main witness saw the perpetrator for up to twenty-five seconds. The case was adjourned to December seventeenth, 2019. Twenty-two-year old Lenford Harris Junior who is the brother of the accused man, saw murder charges withdrawn against him on December tenth, 2019.
