Missing Teens Reported in Belize City and Belmopan

The families of two missing teenagers in Belize City and Belmopan are trying desperately to locate them in good health after they disappeared on Friday in both municipalities.  Sixteen-year-old Jahira Martinez was last seen here in Belize City at the start of the weekend but somehow managed to elude her relatives, while seventeen-year-old Damian Bregal was last seen in the company of friends in Belmopan on Friday night around seven p.m.  Since being reported missing, police have issued bulletins for the safe return of both teens.

“Jahira Martinez, sixteen-years-old, who was reported missing on Sunday by her parents.  She was last seen on Friday, December 13th, sometime around 7:30 a.m., when she left home.  We are following up on some information though that she was seen in Belize City by relatives but she managed to elude her relatives in Belize City.  So we are still following up on several information in relation to her being missing. The second missing person reported to us yesterday morning was one Damian Bregal, seventeen-years-old of a Cayo Street address here in Belize City where his mother reported that on Friday, he was visited by several other persons whom he had a conversation with and thereafter he left with them on Friday night sometime around 7 p.m. and has not been seen or heard from since.  So we are in the process of contacting those persons whom he was last seen with whilst we are continuing with our investigation in relation to him.”

“Is there any optimism that the young man may still be alive or is there concern that something may have happened and now you’re in recovery mode?”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“At this time we do not know, so we are just following all leads being given to us and we need to talk to those persons whom he was last seen with.”
