Attorney says he is pushing case ahead of the general elections
The case is being heard by Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin in the Supreme Court. Deputy Solicitor General Samantha Matute-Tucker is representing the Attorney General. Saldivar was asked if he was pushing the case to trial in light of next year’s elections.
Arthur Saldivar, Attorney
“Most definitely. Again I believe it is the desire of every Belizean to have an opportunity to participate in free and fair elections and this matter, this case, impacts on us being able to make that ability manifest. So in that regard it is of utmost importance.”

“Have you seen any other example in the Caribbean of a case of this nature”
Arthur Saldivar
“Not exactly, with all force with it, but there have been instances where citizens have approached the court to address matters involving public bodies whose authorities derive from the constitution to honour their constitutional duty, their mandate, especially when that mandate is not discretionary as is in this case.”
The case was adjourned to December twentieth, 2019.
