Police Officer Charged with Theft
A police constable is in plenty trouble with the law. Twenty-two-year-old constable of Esperanza Village, Nadir Rayon Mendoza, was charged for theft when he appeared in court today. He was arrested on Monday after police issued a warrant post on Thursday. He is accused of stealing three firearms from the Queen Street Police Station in Belize City. According to the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams, Mendoza, over some time, signed for the firearms which were never returned. He was first detained by investigators and subsequently released. Both a criminal and an internal investigation have been launched. At his arraignment, Mendoza pleaded not guilty. Since there was no objection, he was offered bail in the sum of five thousand dollars plus one surety. The case was adjourned to February eighteenth, 2020.
