Statistics show crime is down
Even while they are busy looking for criminals within their own ranks, the police high command has released statistics showing a significant drop in major crimes. Figures comparing the last month of 2000 and the first of 2001 with the same months a year earlier, show a twelve percent drop in December and a twenty-four percent plunge in January. The survey covered the crimes of rape, murder, robbery, burglary and theft. In absolute terms, the number of major crimes during the two-month period dropped from eight hundred and eighteen to six hundred and seventy-one. It is hoped that the publication of crime statistics will be done on a regular basis and not just when they reflect positively on the Police Department.
